Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Hand Mixer
  • Liquid and Dry Measuring Cup

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese softened
  • ½ Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • Place the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Using a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Start on low speed to incorporate the sugar, then increase to medium-high. Whip until the mixture is creamy, fluffy, and approximately doubled in volume.
  • Add the cold heavy cream and vanilla. Mix on low until the cream is incorporated, then increase to high and whip until stiff peaks form.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate until you're ready to assemble your fruit platter.

Notes

Hint: This is a special treat to pack in school lunches. My family especially loves this dip with bananas.
Easy Fruit Dip Variations
The basic recipe is simple enough to customize.
Mix in a little caramel sauce, mini chocolate chips, toffee bits, pineapple juice, or maraschino cherry juice to change the flavor.
You can also dress up the finished bowl with chocolate or caramel syrup, mini chocolate chips, chopped sundae nuts, or halved maraschino cherries.
How to Soften Cream Cheese Quickly
For the smoothest dip, the cream cheese needs to be soft before you start whipping. You can simply leave it on the counter for about 30 minutes.
To speed things up, fill a large glass or bowl with hot water and let it warm for a few minutes. Pour out the water, dry the container, and place it upside down over the wrapped block of cream cheese. The trapped warmth will help soften it more quickly.
Diana’s Tips for Success
Start with soft cream cheese. Cold cream cheese won't whip as easily and can leave small lumps in the finished dip.
Keep the heavy cream cold. Unlike the cream cheese, heavy whipping cream should come straight from the refrigerator so it whips properly and creates stiff peaks.
How to Build a Fruit Platter
Choose fruits with different colors, shapes, and sizes to make the platter look full and inviting. Arrange cubed and sliced fruit in small piles, alternating colors, shapes, and sizes around the platter.
Larger pieces of melon, pineapple, apples, and grapes can form the base, while strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and other small fruits are perfect for filling gaps.
Bright berries also add contrast around lighter-colored fruits like bananas, apples, and pears.
Storage
Store in the refrigerator and can be stored for up to five days. Do not freeze! The fats in the cream cheese become chalky when frozen.
