Equipment

  • 1 Large Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 1 ⅓ Pounds Ground Beef 80/20 or Ground Chuck
  • 4 Hamburger Buns toasted and buttered
  • 8 Strips Bacon cooked
  • ¼ Cup Peanut Butter creamy style
  • 1 Cup Red Onions sliced
  • Lettuce washed and leafed
  • 2 Tablespoon Water cold
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by cooking the bacon and preparing the peanut butter bacon burger toppings.
  • In a large bowl, add two tablespoons of cold water to ground beef and mix it in.
  • Divide the ground beef into four even portions. Use your hands to form patties approximately 5 inches in diameter and a half an inch thick. Make sure that the patties are packed tight around the edges.
  • Make a slight depression in the center of the patties, and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Next, heat a large skillet on medium heat. Once the pan is hot, place the hamburger patties in the pan. Cook until the juices start to seep up through the top, then flip. (3-5 minutes per side)
  • While cooking on the second side, spread a generous spoonful of peanut butter onto the burger. As the peanut butter melts, it will make the creamy burger sauce.
  • To assemble, place a leaf of lettuce and a few slices of red onion on a toasted, buttered bun. Next, add the peanut butter burger patty. Then put on two slices of bacon and the top bun.

Notes

Do you need oil to fry a burger?
You don’t need to add anything to the frying pan when you cook hamburger patties. There is plenty of fat in the ground beef. The fat will render with the heat of the pan and make its own frying oil.
How do I keep my hamburgers from drying out?
Don’t use lean meat. 80/20 ground beef or ground chuck will give you a juicier burger. Extra fat may not be healthier, but it is the key to a moist patty.
Avoid over cooking by using a thermometer to check the internal temperature of your patties while they cook. Remember that the meat will continue to increase in temperature for a few minutes even after it is removed from the heat.
Expert Tips
  • Let the patties sit out at room temperature for a few minutes before frying. Ice cold patties can take longer to cook through to the center and the outside can dry out before the inside is cooked.
  • Make a thumb sized impression in the center of the hamburger patty before cooking. The burger tends to thicken in the middle as it cooks. The flatter the patty stays the more evenly it will cook.
  • Don’t fiddle with the hamburger patties as they are cooking. Lay them in the pan or on the grill grates and leave them until they are ready to flip.
  • Cook a big batch of bacon in the oven to put on your Peanut Butter Burgers. Cooking bacon in the oven saves time and mess on the stovetop.
  • Toast a batch of buns in the oven. Butter and keep warm in the oven along with the cooked bacon until your are ready to assemble the peanut butter hamburgers. A hot bun and is key to getting that amazing first bite.
